Toss in a great cost of living and central Midwest location and you’ve got the perfect setting for talented attorneys on the rise.

Indianapolis has over 7500 lawyers, many of whom practice at its 850 law firms, 100s of corporations and numerous government agencies. Those attorneys earn an average base pay of $91,808 while enjoying career-enrichment activities through these professional organizations:

Requirements to Practice Law

To become a member of the Indiana Bar you must first earn a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and then pass the Bar Exam. The on time filing fee is $250 and all applicants must also pass the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE). If you are a licensed attorney in another US jurisdiction, you may also apply for the Bar if certain requirements are met. Foreign law school graduates are not allowed to take the Indiana Bar Exam.

Once you have passed the Bar Exam and fulfilled the other requirements you will then be sworn in at an official ceremony. To maintain a law license in Indiana you must complete a minimum of six CLE hours per year, and a total of 36 CLE hours every three years. Three of those 36 hours must be in professional responsibility.

The city’s bustling legal district is located downtown north of I-70 and east of the White River. Some of the best neighborhoods in Indianapolis include Pogue’s Run, West Indianapolis, Bos, the Reserve at Spring Mill and Cornerstone Place.

In addition to auto racing, two major league sports franchises and its many parks, major attractions around the city include the zoo, Monument Circle, Children’s Museum, Museum of Art and Central Canal.
